PROGRAM TECHNICIAN III
Job Description and Duties
This position is being advertised until filled and applications will be reviewed monthly with the following cutoff dates: 04/15/26, 05/15/26, 06/15/26, 07/15/26, 08/15/26, and 08/29/26.
Under the general direction of the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) in the Disposition Resolution Unit, the Program Technician (PT) III analyzes and interprets criminal history documents and resolves all complex errors or omissions prior to submission for entry into the Automated Criminal History System (ACHS). The PT III will request missing arrest and court disposition information to comply with legal requirements for firearms and ammunition eligibility purposes. They will provide priority handling of arrest and disposition information needed to comply with legal requirements, review documents to determine their validity, identify any additional problems, and employ the most efficient method of resolution. Further duties include interpreting manual and automated criminal history records and related source documents, corresponding with criminal justice agencies by U.S. mail, telephone, and fax, and providing training to new and current employees. The PT III must have excellent communication and organizational skills, work well under stress, and be able to adjust to changing priorities. They must be highly motivated, flexible, able to resolve issues with minimal guidance and follow oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures. In response to critical workload, the PT III may be required to work overtime and/or assist other Bureau of Firearms (BOF) program units as organizational priorities arise and may not be allowed to take time off during the months of November through January.You will find additional information about the job in the .

The Program Technician III should possess good verbal skills; be able to follow oral and written instructions; analyze data; pay close attention to detail; meet short due dates and/or deadlines; experience working with various database and computer systems (Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook); be dependable; and display good work habits.
