Staff Data Engineer
Visa Technology & Operations LLC, a Visa Inc. company, needs a Staff Data Engineer (multiple openings) in Foster City, CA to
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
- Create and tune complex SQL for views across federated sources including Hadoop, DB2 and Oracle.
- Collaborate with product management / product owners on defining user experience, demos and training.
- Collaborate with BI report developers on design for optimal performance.
- Assist on data analytics projects involving data modeling and architecture.
- Assist on building integration with other data / metadata tools in the architecture.
- Assist on some database administration tasks for the data virtualization platform.
- Use business requirements to document clear and concise technical designs.
- Maintain design and naming standards.
- Contribute to project planning discussions, provide status updates for development progress and be a critical resource for issue resolution.
- Position reports to the Foster City, California office and may allow for partial telecommuting.
Basic Qualifications:
- Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a Data Engineer – related occupation.
- Experience can be gained through academic coursework and/or work experience.
- Position requires experience in the following:
- Object oriented programming in Java, Golang, Python or similar;
- Procedural programming in Shell, C or similar;
- Understanding of network protocol such as TCP/IP, ICMP, PRP, HSR, LLDP, and CIP;
- Distributed systems;
- Cloud Infrastructure;
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience; and
- Relational and nonrelational databases.

Worksite: Foster City, CA
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Travel Requirements: This position does not require travel.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $146,200.00 to $233,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
