Associate Director of College Counseling and Associate Dean of Academic Advisement

de Toledo High School, a vibrant and innovative independent high school, is seeking a dynamic Associate Director of College Counseling and Associate Dean of Academic Advisement. This position is a key member of the College Counseling team and will provide college counseling and academic advising to students and families, perform administrative tasks that support students in their college search process, and promote the success of the school’s overall college counseling and academic advising programs. The Associate Director of College Counseling and Associate Dean of Academic Advisement reports to the Director of College Counseling and Dean of Academic Advisement. This is a 12-month position with a preferred start date of July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities:


Understand and be able to articulate the mission and vision of dTHS, as well as the mission of the College Counseling Department.

Work with a caseload of 30–35 students in grades 9–12 as their college counselor and academic advisor.

  • Educate families about individual colleges and universities, the college application process, trends in higher education, and standardized testing.
  • Assist students with all phases of the college application process, including but not limited to: researching colleges, providing essay feedback, guiding extracurricular representation, demonstrating interest to colleges, and navigating standardized testing.
  • Write a letter of recommendation for each assigned senior and submit all necessary school related documents to colleges in advance of relevant application deadlines.
  • Provide academic planning and advisement for course selection for each student in assigned grade level cohorts.
  • Participate in group presentations to parents, students, faculty, and administration.
  • Assist in the coordination of PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exam administrations, as needed.
  • Assist in planning and executing College Application Boot Camp and new student academic advising events.
  • Provide basic financial aid resources and guidance to families.
  • Meet with college admission representatives during their visits to campus and facilitate meetings between representatives and students. Serve as a liaison with college admission offices throughout the year.
  • Stay current on colleges, their admission processes, and trends, and provide information on gap year programs and post secondary options in Israel and around the world.
    Write and send college counseling communications, maintaining regular communication with parents/guardians and students throughout the college admission and academic advising processes.
  • Assist in updating the College Counseling Department’s publications, including the Curriculum Guide and School Profile.
  • Visit colleges and universities throughout the academic year and attend national and regional college admission counseling conferences and forums such as WACAC, NACAC, and ACCIS.
  • Attend departmental, staff, and faculty meetings; open houses for student recruitment; class trips and school events; Shabbatonim; curriculum evenings; and certain religious services and other activities as designated by the School Administration.
  • Build meaningful connections with students, families, and faculty/staff colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Minimum of 5 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions.

  • Understanding of highly selective college admissions.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Values collaboration, teamwork, organization, sense of humor, attention to detail, accountability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of independent school philosophy and culture.
  • Involvement in regional and national admissions organizations such as WACAC and NACAC.
  • Experience with online college admissions software (SCOIR) and school software (Blackbaud) is strongly preferred; proficiency with technology and online resources is essential.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with adolescents and their parents.
  • Ability to work effectively one-on-one with high school students and colleagues; willingness to be an active and enthusiastic member of the de Toledo community.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

Salary Range: $90,000-102,000
