Title: Assistant General Manager

Reports to : General Manager

Classification: Exempt

Summary of Position: The A16 Assistant General Manager is vital in enhancing service quality and guest satisfaction at A16 Napa. This role involves leading team efforts to achieve excellence in service standards, staffing, event coordination, and operational efficiency. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager focuses on continuous improvement and team education.

Responsibilities:

Service Excellence

  • Ensure all guests receive exceptional, attentive, and friendly service at all times.
  • Uphold and elevate service standards throughout all shifts.
  • Support the wine program, ensuring staff are knowledgeable and can recommend offerings

Team Management & Development

  • Oversee and coordinate training for FOH staff on service standards and special menus.
  • Manage staffing needs, including scheduling requests and ensuring proper coverage.
  • Collaborate with the Events Team on staffing, and procurement and decor for large parties and events.
  • Identify development opportunities for key team members, providing continuous growth and leadership opportunities.
  • Deliver fair and swift feedback and action plans for team members not adhering to company policy.

Operational Oversight

  • Schedule labor to meet operational needs and adhere to budgetary goals.
  • Coordinate front-of-house ordering and inventory submission processes.
  • Execute opening and closing procedures efficiently, ensuring all tasks are completed.
  • Fully proficient on all administrative leadership tools and makes updates to all systems in accordance with business needs (ie POS, reservations, scheduling, menu tools, etc)

Event Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate staffing for upcoming events, ensuring all details are addressed.
  • Implement daily breaking procedures to facilitate smooth service transitions.

Facility Management

  • Oversee repair and maintenance needs for the restaurant facilities, addressing issues promptly.
  • Work with senior leadership to maintain cleanliness and uphold sanitation standards.

Leadership & Communication

  • Lead daily line-up sessions to communicate operational details and promote teamwork.
  • Foster a professional demeanor among staff and encourage a positive workplace culture.
  • Attends and contributes to all management meetings

Competencies:

  • Strong business acumen, effective communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with POS systems, scheduling, reservations, and inventory management.
  • Strong knowledge of Italian cuisine and wine.
  • Maintenance of front of house order guide and vendor relationships.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Manage and oversee FOH and BAR staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Coordinates with Kitchen Leadership with hourly team member oversight.

Work Hours:

  • Requires availability for nights, weekends, and off-site events during peak seasons.

Please be aware of the Company Request For Time Off Black Out Period: No RTO will be granted from Thanksgiving Week until the week following New Year's.

Physical Demands:

  • The position involves standing, walking, and occasional lifting within a restaurant setting.

Position Type: Full-time, exempt, averaging 50 hours/week.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in restaurant roles, including 1 year in management, with a current Food Handlers and ServeSafe Certification and familiarity with employment laws.
