Senior Tax Manager Company: Boutique CPA Firm Compensation: $150,000 - $200,000 discretionary bonus Location: Hybrid / Remote (San Diego, CA) Overview A boutique CPA firm is seeking an experienced tax professional to join its growing practice. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with business owners and high-net-worth individuals, providing both tax compliance and strategic advisory services. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax expertise, a client-service mindset, and the ability to independently manage complex engagements while contributing to the growth of the practice. Key Responsibilities • Manage a portfolio of individual and business tax clients from planning through filing • Prepare and review federal and multi-state tax returns • Advise clients on tax planning, business transactions, and wealth preservation strategies • Research technical tax matters and develop practical solutions • Identify tax planning opportunities and provide proactive recommendations • Build and maintain strong client relationships through consultative service • Support process improvements, technology initiatives, and operational efficiencies • Mentor and develop junior team members Minimum Qualifications • Active CPA license required • 8 years of public accounting tax experience • Experience with individual, partnership, S-corporation, and corporate tax returns • Strong knowledge of complex tax matters and multi-state filings • Ability to independently manage client relationships and engagements • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with closely held businesses and high-net-worth clients • Exposure to estate, trust, or wealth transfer planning • Tax advisory and strategic planning experience • Experience mentoring or reviewing staff work • Interest in technology, automation, and process improvement Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
