Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to support the mechanical integrity, reliability, and performance of critical refinery machinery systems.

In this role, you will partner closely with Machinery Inspectors, Operations, and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, improve asset reliability, and reduce repeat failures across the facility. You will be responsible for both day-to-day technical support and long-term reliability improvement initiatives focused on pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, fans, and blowers.

This position plays a key role in improving equipment availability, strengthening process safety, and driving measurable reductions in loss of primary containment (LOPC) events through disciplined reliability engineering practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strengthen a Goal Zero culture by improving rotating equipment safety, integrity, and reliability performance
• Reduce LOPC events and repeat failures through structured root cause analysis and corrective action execution
• Support real-time troubleshooting of rotating equipment in collaboration with Machinery Inspectors and Operations
• Develop and execute short- and long-term reliability strategies to improve asset performance and lifecycle cost
• Identify and resolve chronic “bad actor” equipment through engineering solutions and maintenance strategy improvements
• Ensure compliance with mechanical integrity standards and support continuous improvement of operating practices
• Provide engineering input into capital projects, turnarounds, and reliability improvement initiatives
• Review and improve maintenance and operating procedures for rotating equipment systems
• Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) processes for equipment modifications and upgrades
• Provide technical oversight for vendor repair work, including scope definition and repair quality assurance
• Support condition monitoring and performance analysis activities, including vibration, efficiency, and hydraulic performance

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 3+ years of experience in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial rotating equipment reliability, maintenance, or design
• Working knowledge of API, ANSI, and ASME standards
• Experience with RCFA and troubleshooting chronic equipment failures
• Familiarity with rotating equipment including steam turbines, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and compressors, seals, and lubrication systems
• Understanding of vibration analysis, machinery performance evaluation, and hydraulic analysis fundamentals
• Exposure to condition monitoring systems (e.g., Bentley Nevada System 1, SKF, Windrock)
• Basic understanding of instrumentation and low-voltage systems related to machinery monitoring and protection
• Willingness to support turnaround/outage work schedules and extended maintenance events
• Participation in an on-call rotation to support off-hours plant operational needs
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
