Kindergarten Learning Assistant - French Program, Elementary School

The Learning Assistant works within the framework of the job description and assignment and makes decisions only within that framework. Learning Assistants are required to maintain certifications as required by the school and/or Social Services. In addition, they should keep all relevant certifications current. Depending on your relevant work experience and educational attainment, the hourly rate of pay is based on an annual wage ranging from (CO-2) $60,451 to (CO-20+) $79,315, with an additional bonus for academic attainment, [$1,000 for a BA and $2,000 for an MA].
Learning assistants are expected to
- Follow Social Services requirements and stay with the students at all times.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior, responsible behavior towards attendance, and work schedule
- Be knowledgeable of and follow School policies and procedures, particularly those dealing with confidentiality, cross-cultural understanding, discipline, harassment and communication, health and safety, or Licensing Regulations.
- Actively supervise lunch, recess, and the extended day program as noted in the schedule. Active, visual supervision is expected at all times.
- Promote an atmosphere of respect for students and adults
- Work to support the philosophy of the school
- Address conflicts with colleagues/ teacher/Licensing & Enrichment Director first, then the principal if the issue remains
- Participate in in-service activities as requested.
- Refer all inquiries and concerns about the student to the teacher/Licensing & Enrichment Director, and the Principal if needed.
- Assist in attendance, record keeping, students’ work filing, classroom clean up and decoration, and snack preparation.
- Assist in the implementation of the classroom management
- Support and promote goals for the class community, as well as the goals for the social and emotional development of the children
- Lead some small group activities as instructed by the teacher/ Enrichment Support Director
- Meet weekly with the teacher to get information on upcoming activities and the preparation needed
- Assist in preparing the learning environment, setting up activity centers, and preparing needed material and supplies in advance, as instructed by the teacher/Licensing & Enrichment Director
- Note: Preparation should be made when the Employee is not responsible for supervising the students.
- During the academic year, learning assistants are not expected to:
- Plan and initiate learning activities; for example, develop specific lesson plans, select learning materials
- Report to parents on pedagogical matters or student academic performances
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with young children
- Native or near native French speakers are especially encouraged to apply
- Experience with the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) preferred

Summer Care and Mini Camps
As this position is classified as an academic role throughout the entire year, all Learning Assistants are required to work six (6) out of the nine (9) weeks of camp during each academic year. These camps consist of three held during the academic year and six consecutive weeks that occur during the months of June and July. Assignments will include a combination of both summer and mini camps.
During summer care and mini camps, Learning Assistants will function in the capacity of camp counselors, tasked with the planning and implementation of activities under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Licensing and Enrichment Programs. The Director of Licensing and Enrichment Programs will provide a specific theme for the camps and will assist in the organizational planning process. Camp counselors are encouraged to utilize the time available during the week preceding each minicamp for planning and preparation. Furthermore, time will be allocated within the summer care schedule to facilitate weekly planning and preparation activities.

- Good general health, physical stamina, and emotional stability are essential
- Ability to hear within normal range, and communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner that can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population
- Ability to move quickly to address emergency or potentially dangerous situations
- Able to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions
- Occasionally, lifting is required to 35 lbs.
