Cost Accountant

We are currently seeking a Cost Accountant to join our dynamic accounting team at our corporate office. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or a minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience. Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail are required. This is a full-time position with a competitive benefit package. The pay range for this position is $29-33/hourly.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Construction Payables & Invoice Processing



  • Review, code, and process all land development and vertical construction invoices and purchase orders, ensuring they are accurately allocated to the appropriate tracts, lots, and cost categories.


  • Verify invoices against contracts and resolve discrepancies or variances in scope, pricing, or billing.


  • Manage payment processing, including transfers, generating checks and ACH transactions, and coordinating lien release collection and approval routing.


  • Compile financial documentation to support line-of-credit draw requests.

2. Job Cost Management & Analysis



  • Compare actual costs for personal selections against customer sales pricing to validate margin performance.


  • Identify and investigate discrepancies between budgeted, actual, and sales amounts for both base house and option upgrades.


  • Create and update base house budgets; generate detailed job cost and variance reports.


  • Collaborate with the land and purchasing teams to ensure proper alignment between contracts, invoices, and cost entries. Collaborate to streamline job costing and invoice workflows.

3. Cost System Administration (WMS)



  • Maintain accurate costing and pricing data in the WMS system for all trade partners and cost codes.


  • Set up new communities, phases, lots, plans, elevations, and personal selection options in WMS.


  • Resolve data discrepancies between WMS and Sage accounting software to ensure alignment.

5. General Accounting Functions



  • Reconcile construction costs for land development, vertical construction, indirect costs and warranty to the general ledger for each tract.


  • Prepare and post month end journal entries.


  • Act as a backup for the Accounts Payable Specialist.



  • Participate in the design and implementation of a new ERP system to support business growth and operational effectiveness.
