Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Senior Automotive Equipment Standards Engineer, the Associate Automotive Equipment Standards Engineer is responsible for functions associated with the development of automotive equipment standards for departmental vehicles; assures departmental vehicle compliance with state and federal regulations; develops and conducts tests of various automotive equipment for compliance with regulations and suitability for specific functions Department's fleet for the Fleet Operations Section.
Working Conditions
Primarily climate controlled office; however, significant time in an automotive shop environment, and at times outdoors in a paved parking area.

- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified before appointment. - The CHP utilizes their own Associate Automotive Equipment Standards Engineer certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Associate Automotive Equipment Standards Engineer classification to be eligible to take the examination. To obtain certification list eligibility, please view the examination bulletin link at CalCareers and follow all instructions. In addition to applying for the examination, applicants MUST submit an application to this Job Control to be considered for the position.

SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Temporary Appointments may be considered if conditions warrant. Temporary Appointments may be made to anyone regardless of eligibility. Temporary Appointments may not exceed 9 months and will require eligibility to be obtained through an examination process in order to transition to a permanent appointment.
