Department Overview

The Utility Partnerships and Innovation (UP&I) Leadership team is focused on enabling an electrified, clean energy 2040 with affordable rates for our customers, via innovation and partnerships to deliver transformative, scalable solutions to interlocking utility challenges; electrification of vehicles and buildings to achieve beneficial electric load growth that delights customers; and electric load management solutions to support load growth while mitigating infrastructure and procurement spend.

Load Management Strategy & Policy (LMS&P) team leads the ongoing development and deployment of the True North Strategy (TNS) Supply & Load Business Plan and PG&E’s Load Management Strategy. The team directs policy, valuation, market development, solutions design, and alignment of current and future solutions in support of the Load Management Strategy.

Position Summary

The Principal, Product Manager will serve as the company lead on distributed energy resource (DER) valuation. The position is high-visibility both internally and externally and will lead development of policy and strategy on DER valuation approaches. This work requires developing, testing, and refining valuation models for internal program and project analysis, as well as testing and identifying improvements to public California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) models. The Principal, Product Manager will also develop methodologies for quantifying the DER value of new and existing load management solutions to determine which DER efforts provide the greatest value and whether those efforts are more cost-effective relative to supply-side procurement and T&D infrastructure projects.

The Principal, Product Manager will interface with other LMS&P team members working on load management strategy and policy, DER integration, program and product development (e.g. vehicle-grid integration (VGI) and behind-the-meter batteries), and planning frameworks like the integrated resource plan (IRP). Activities include developing short and long-term strategies, advocating for favorable policies, performing quick turnaround analysis, developing valuation models, and executing on requirements that arise from regulatory proceedings at the CPUC and California Energy Commission (CEC). The Principal, Product Manager will conduct quantitative and qualitative work to support various regulatory proceedings, pilots, and strategy efforts; write comments, testimony, and reports; project manage valuation efforts; develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and communicate recommendations to stakeholders, including the executive team.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA.

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint of the range. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
