Position Overview: The Used Car Buyer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing pre-owned vehicles for resale. This role requires a keen understanding of the automotive market, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with car owners, wholesalers, and auction houses. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about the used car industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source used vehicles through various channels, including auctions, wholesalers, private sellers, and trade-ins.
- Evaluate and appraise vehicles based on condition, market value, and current demand.
- Negotiate purchase prices with sellers to ensure profitability for the dealership.
- Stay updated on market trends and pricing for various makes and models.
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of vehicles to ensure they meet dealership standards.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, including vehicle details, pricing, and transaction documentation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with car owners, wholesalers, and other potential sellers.
- Collaborate with sales and inventory teams to ensure vehicles are priced and marketed appropriately.
- Manage vehicle inventory and ensure an adequate selection of pre-owned cars.
- Ensure all vehicles purchased meet legal and safety requirements for resale.
- Meet and exceed monthly and annual purchase goals.
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in business, automotive management, or a related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in buying used cars, automotive sales, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of the automotive industry, including vehicle makes, models, and market trends.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of vehicle appraisals and inspections.
- Knowledge of automotive regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with automotive pricing tools and software.
- Familiarity with the dealership management system (DMS).
- Strong network of industry contacts.
- Bonus and commission structure based on performance with potential to earn $42k-$100k annually.
