Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Madison, Wisconsin 53792
• Facility: Academic Level I Trauma Center
• Assignment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel Nursing Contract)
• Unit: Cardiac Stepdown (Acute Med/Prog Care D6/5)
• Start Date: September 8, 2025
• End Date: December 8, 2025
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00pm – 7:30am), Monday through Friday, every other weekend, some holidays required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Ratios: General Care 1:4, IMC 1:2
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2200 - $2260

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Wisconsin or compact state RN license (required at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in Cardiac Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Telemetry nursing (within last 3 years)
• Experience in an Academic Level I or II trauma center or large hospital setting
• Prior travel nursing experience (required)
• BLS (American Heart Association) and ACLS certifications
• EPIC charting experience (within last 12 months preferred)
• Competency in basic arrhythmia and telemetry (must pass telemetry exam before start)
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility (per travel nurse guidelines)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with cardiac conditions, multiple comorbidities, and hemodynamic instability
• Monitor and manage cardiac stepdown and telemetry patients, including arrhythmia interpretation and rapid response
• Administer medications, titrate cardiac drips, and care for ventilated and post-transplant patients
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, rapid response)
• Float to other nursing units as needed to support hospital staffing
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation using EPIC electronic health records
• Participate in orientation and ongoing competency assessments, including telemetry testing
• Educate and support patients and their families throughout the care process
