- Leading a team of supervisory, audit, and support team members.
- Plans, develops, recommends, and implements section-wide policy and procedures.
- Providing input to the HOB Chief on emerging issues related to compliance and audit functions.
- Having a broad knowledge of the provisions of various tax and fee programs administered by the CDTFA.
The STA Ill also:
- Works cooperatively with other CDTFA divisions and state agencies in the administration of these programs for their agencies.
- Serves in a key leadership capacity and is an integral part of Processing, Policy, and Data Division's and the CDTFA's overall management team.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.

Working Conditions
- Position may be located in a high-rise building.
- Standard office environment.
- Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods of time.

Eligibility for Promotional Exams
In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for the Supervising Tax Auditor III, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
- Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
- Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
- Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.
Under certain circumstances other employees may be allowed to compete under provisions of Rules 234, 235 and 235.2. California Code of Regulations Rules 233, 234, 235.2 and 237 contain provisions regarding civil service status and eligibility for promotional examinations. Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Experience working in a position related to taxation.
- Experience communicating with the public verbally and in writing.
- Proficient with using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent organization skills.
