Job Description and Duties

METROPOLITAN STATE HOSPITAL-Located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County.

**This Position is Limited Term for 12 months. This position may be terminated at any time or may become permanent at a later date**

Under the general direction of the Program Director of Enhancement Services and immediate supervision of the Patient Services Program Assistant, the Beauty Shop Manager supervises and coordinates the operation of patient beauty shop personal services in a State Institution; establishes and maintains standards of equipment sanitation and cleanliness, as well as safety and licensing standards as established by state and federal regulatory agencies; and keeps records and prepares reports. Incumbent ensures public property is protected and safe. In addition, incumbent will respond to emergency situations as trained in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions.

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid California license as a hairdresser and cosmetician. and Three years of experience as a licensed hairdresser and cosmetician including one year as a manager of a licensed cosmetological establishment with responsibility for ordering supplies and equipment.

Opened in 1916, DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is in the vibrant community of Norwalk,15 miles east of Los Angeles. To the south are entertainment venues like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the marinas and beaches of Huntington, Newport and Laguna. To the west are Palos Verdes and Marina Del Rey.

DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds. The commitment categories of patients treated at DSH-Metropolitan: Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act, Incompetent to Stand Trial (PC 1370), Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (Penal Code Section 2964/2972/2974), Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (PC 1026).
