Associate Accountant

We are seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Associate Accountant . This role will report to the Controller and is ideal for someone eager to grow their accounting career within a dynamic, multi-entity, and international environment.

The successful candidate will focus primarily on full-cycle Accounts Payable; while developing exposure and eventually taking on the Accounts Receivable cycle and revenue processes. This role will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial operations across multiple entities, currencies, and systems.

Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a full-time remote basis from any location within California.

What You'll Do:

• Manage full cycle accounts payable, for multi-national entities from data entry to bank reconciliations:
  • Vendor Bill Review & Processing: Accurately review and process vendor bills using available tools and technology, ensuring proper coding and workflow approvals.
  • Weekly payment run preparation and review: utilizing various reports to pay vendors within set payment terms.
  • Month End Close: Assist with close activities including accruals, account reviews, and reconciliations.
    • Bank Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations; identify and resolve any discrepancies in bank transactions
    • Statement Review & Vendor Follow-Ups: Reconcile vendor statements and address any discrepancies or issues.
• Travel & Expense System Management: Oversee the corporate credit card program, including monitoring expenses, follow-ups on outstanding items, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
• Utilization of Accounting Tools: such as Excel, NetSuite, Ramp, and various bank providers.
• Assist with Tax Compliance:1099’s
• Growth Areas 6+ months:
  • Develop into full cycle accounts receivable: sales orders, invoices, cash applications, customer follow-ups
  • Inventory: track in-transit, installations, reconciliations
• Adhoc projects as required

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
• 1-3 years of accounting or relevant internship experience preferred
• Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and reliability
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Curiosity and eagerness to learn and grow within the accounting field
• A “get it done” attitude

You May Also Have:

• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Bill.com , Navan, Ramp, Stripe, Paypal)
• Experience or knowledge in handling multi-entity and multi-currency transactions is an advantage
• Exposure to month end close practices
• Passion for ocean-going activities

Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000. In accordance with applicable state laws, the range provided is Surfline's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location.
