Registered Nurse (RN) - Private Duty - Newport Beach, CA

A private family is seeking 3–4 highly skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide 1:1 private duty care for their 12-year-old son in a well-supported home setting in Newport Beach, CA .

The patient experienced an AVM rupture approximately 9 months ago and was recently discharged from the hospital. He is medically stable , cognitively intact, and communicates meaningfully via an eye-gaze device , though motor function is still recovering.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for clinically confident nurses who are experienced in managing ventilator and tracheostomy care independently . The home environment is organized, fully equipped , and supported by an engaged family and therapy team.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide independent 1:1 skilled nursing care

• Manage tracheostomy and ventilator support (overnight)

• Monitor respiratory and neurological status

• Recognize and respond to neurostorming and seizure activity (currently controlled)

• Administer medications and treatments per care plan

• Perform airway management, suctioning, and routine trach care

• Provide comfort care, positioning, and support

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation

Patient Overview

• Medically stable with no frequent acute instability

• Ventilator support required overnight only (12+ hours off vent during the day)

• Tracheostomy in place

• Neurologically complex (brainstem injury, neurostorming history)

• Cognitively intact and communicates via assistive technology

• Actively participating in PT, OT, speech therapy, and schooling

Care Team Collaboration

• Work closely with family and interdisciplinary care team

• Participate in and support therapy sessions (PT/OT/speech)

• Provide consistent, compassionate care in a home-based setting

The ideal candidate is a confident, experienced RN with strong clinical skills in high-acuity pediatric care.

Qualifications include:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license

• Strong experience with ventilator and tracheostomy care

• Ability to independently manage complex clinical cases

• Preferred background in PICU or high-acuity pediatric care

• Experience with neurologically complex patients strongly preferred

• Skilled in recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition

• Professional, calm, and detail-oriented

• Must pass an advanced third-party background check (paid by client)
