Job Summary

Licensed Vocational Nurses are licensed health professionals who perform patient care, technical, and supportive services under general supervision in a medical office or clinical setting. The LVN supports the philosophy and complies with the protocols, policies, and procedures of the Organization and the assigned Medical Office Department.

Responsibilities include:

• Upholding Kaiser Permanente's policies, procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable laws.
• Performing patient care functions as prescribed by physicians following established protocols.
• Assisting with special procedures, minor surgeries, and diagnostic exams.
• Assessing and monitoring patient conditions and notifying healthcare professionals for disposition.
• Preparing and administering medications as directed.
• Maintaining equipment and supplies, applying aseptic techniques, and infection control.
• Monitoring patient flow and directing ancillary personnel as needed.
• Providing patient education and information.
• Documenting patient information and maintaining confidentiality.
• Explaining procedures to patients, instructing on self-care, and reviewing physician orders.
• Applying orthopedic devices, dressings, and executing treatments like catheterizations.
• Following infection control procedures, initiating emergency procedures including CPR, and responding to Code Blues.
• Monitoring vital signs, obtaining specimens, performing diagnostic tests, and assisting in surgical procedures.
• Transporting patients, specimens, and supplies.
• Managing administrative tasks such as scheduling, record keeping, and ordering supplies.
• Participating in team activities, training, and maintaining clinical proficiency.

Additional responsibilities include responding to patient calls, maintaining manuals, and serving as a resource to colleagues.
