SW Design Assurance Engineer Sr.
The SW Design Assurance Team requires Engineering Skills in Embedded Systems. The SW Design Assurance Team supports Zebra's promise of quality to our customers and is responsible for ensuring products meet specifications throughout program phases from SW components to assessment of entire design and implementation of final product.
This position is hybrid based in Mississauga, Canada.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The SW Design Assurance Team / Product Quality Engineering team is looking for a full-time contract engineer that has the technical skills associated with this position.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge in design for Embedded Systems and cloud solutions quality, this entails knowledge of scanning, computer vision and mobile devices.
Experience in SW design, development, testing and release management.
Experience with Software Solutions as a Service, processes, automation tools, metrics and KPIs.
Working as part of a product development team, provides all quality deliverables required in the development and release processes at each phase with low level of coaching.
Advising SW design engineering best practices including the application and testing of embedded SW and cloud systems.
Escalate and manage SW quality issues to ensure the program is on the glide path to meet SW product quality release objectives.
Ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of cause-and-effect relation between SW defects and potential impact and consequences to customers, enabling strong customer advocacy support, specifically in the technology of autonomous automation.
Communicates proactively with all stakeholders about reliability analysis and results. Uses experience and knowledge to proactively identify risks to the project. Contributes to overall project leadership.
Perform analysis of quality metrics, analysis of defect root cause and defect risk assessment, input decisions as to prioritization and severity of SW defects, represent customer vantage point for all quality related issues working directly with the design team.
Develop Key Performance Indicators considering Customer Facing attributes, specifically applicable to embedded systems.
Set up and conduct Release Readiness Review meetings and other key milestone reviews with the entire end-to-end product team according to prescribed methods.
Acts independently to apply knowledge to highlight or resolve issues about design approach and conformance to standards.
Contributes to innovation efforts by participating actively in brainstorming activities and actively benchmarking externally with other organizations on best practices in design assurance
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in an Engineering field (Software Engineering, Computer Science)
Minimum of 10 years' experience in Software Engineering and Computer Science for embedded/mobile related fields.
Advanced knowledge, skill, and problem-solving ability on wireless technologies.
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Software QA automation experience working with any of the following technologies: Java, Python etc.
Knowledge of productivity tools such as JIRA, confluence, PowerBI etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in SW Stability and performance strategies.
Experience with Android, Linux/embedded Windows architecture.
Work closely with Product manager, SW Engineering team, Test leads and provide technical direction in design discussions, customer use cases and project reviews.
Experience communicating to cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings
Ability to actively engage business/technology partners, present, defend & challenge technical recommendations
Ability to deal with ambiguities effectively
Advocate for the customer and drive for the highest quality at all levels of the product.
Instill best practices for software development and documentation
Validated ability to deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
Strong analytical skills & methodical, objective, approach to problem solving
