The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Information Technology has an opening for an Information Technology Specialist I in the Central IT Support Unit. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Drive, #200, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670-6114. Our office is located in a business park with ample free parking.
Duties: The Information Technology Specialist I provides customer service and technical support for Central IT Services, following established procedures in Business Technology Management, Client Services, and System Engineering. Duties include installing and repairing hardware and peripherals; managing user accounts and inventory; resolving incidents; ensuring compliance with security policies; deploying and maintaining desktop products; configuring software; supporting network and server hardware; monitoring systems; and troubleshooting issues.
This role delivers timely IT services to the Central Valley, Central Coast, and Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Boards, including configuration and maintenance of workstations, printers, laptops, and other assigned technology. Staff based in the Central Valley Regional Board office primarily assist offices in Rancho Cordova, Fresno, Redding, South Lake Tahoe, and San Luis Obispo, but may support other regional offices as needed. The incumbent may work outside normal hours and travel statewide to provide support, attend meetings and training, and collaborate on projects. Work is performed independently and collaboratively to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient IT operations in accordance with departmental policies.

Working Conditions
Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position and might be expected to comply with after July 1, 2026.
In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Proof of residency may be required.
Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Demonstrated experience in and/or knowledge of providing customer service to customers, stakeholders, and employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, stakeholders, business partners, and executive management.
- Willingness to travel to remote locations to provide on-site support.
- Three or more years of experience with and/or knowledge of providing desktop support experience in a business environment.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of administering and supporting Local Area Networks (LANs).
- Experience and/or knowledge administrating Windows based environment including M365, and Active Directory.
- Experience and/or knowledge of participating in or leading IT infrastructure or technology implementation projects.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of creating and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, and user guides.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of endpoint management and software deployment tools including ManageEngine, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, and Microsoft Intune.

Statement of Qualifications
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application and serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. It should be typed, no more than two (2) pages in length, using Arial,12 point font , and normal margins.
1. Describe an IT project that you led or played a significant role in implementing. Include the project’s objectives, your responsibilities, challenges encountered, and the outcome.
2. Describe your experience using endpoint management platforms to manage enterprise devices. Include your experience with software deployment, patch management, configuration management, security policies, and reporting. How have you leveraged these tools to support organizational goals and reduce risk?
