About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.
Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.
We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.
About the role
The Data Cloud team provides comprehensive, cross-application data insights for our customers. Our products—such as reporting, dashboards, data catalogs, and transformations—help customers understand and utilize their data to make informed decisions.
This front-end engineering role focuses on building our Reporting product suite. You'll be developing features for advanced report configuration, report templatization and organization, and other analytical tools that will enable Rippling’s customers to intuitively extract value and meaning out of the data they store in Rippling.
We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about creating exceptional user experiences. You should be comfortable with the latest React performance best practices, parallel data fetching, end-user experience monitoring, and building maintainable, well-tested APIs for complex data interactions.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to both product and platform layers. We prioritize scalability and extensibility, ensuring solutions serve all of Rippling’s current and future applications. The Data Cloud team is highly visible and collaborates closely with many other teams across the organization
What you will do
- Build & Innovate: Lead the design and development of sophisticated and intuitive user interfaces for our data products, including reporting, analytics, customizable workflows, and search. You'll translate complex data requirements into elegant and user-friendly frontend experiences.
- Drive Frontend Architecture: Own and evolve the frontend architecture for the Data Cloud team, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability. You will make key technical decisions that impact the long-term success of our data products.
- Set the Bar for Engineering Excellence: As a senior technical leader, you’ll establish best practices for frontend development, ensuring high-quality, performant, and reliable code. You'll advocate for modern frontend technologies and patterns.
- Lead Design & Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to define and refine user experiences. You’ll be a key voice in shaping the visual and interactive aspects of our data products, ensuring they are both powerful and delightful to use.
- Mentor & Elevate the Team: Guide and mentor junior and mid-level frontend engineers, helping them grow technically and professionally. You'll foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence within the team.
- Cross-Functional Impact: Work seamlessly with backend engineers on the Data Platform team to integrate frontend solutions with robust data pipelines and APIs. Your understanding of both frontend and data systems will be crucial.
What you will need
- Experience: 6+ years of hands-on frontend engineering experience with deep expertise in modern JavaScript frameworks, particularly React.
- Deep Technical Expertise: Strong computer science fundamentals with a proven track record of designing and optimizing complex web applications that operate at scale. You're comfortable tackling challenging frontend performance and scalability issues.
- Product-Oriented Mindset: You possess a strong passion for user experience and product design. You're adept at understanding user needs and translating them into intuitive and effective frontend solutions.
- Learning Mindset: You're eager to learn and adopt new frontend technologies and patterns as needed, always seeking the best tools to solve complex problems.
- Leadership: You have a demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful products.
- Master of Frontend Technologies: Proficient in React, Redux (or similar state management libraries), HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+). Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js) is a plus.
- Bonus Points:
- Familiarity with Python/Django or similar backend systems.
- Experience building analytics or reporting dashboards.
- Contributions to open-source frontend projects.
