Maintenance Technician 1 (Helm)

SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician I assists with and performs production-related maintenance tasks to support safe, efficient, and continuous operations. This role focuses on repairing and maintaining mechanical systems, heavy equipment, machine controls, electrical and pneumatic components, and general facility maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions may be reassigned as needed.

Maintenance Technician Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, buildings, production machines, and mechanical equipment.
• Follow diagrams, manuals, manufacturer instructions, and safety procedures.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions using observation and precision instruments.
• Dismantle equipment, inspect parts, and adjust functional components.
• Communicate preventive maintenance needs to production personnel.
• Schedule and perform timely maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests.
• Document and close work orders in CMMS.
• Provide mechanical maintenance guidance and maintain continuity among work teams.
• Ensure work meets specifications and production standards.

Heavy Equipment Responsibilities:

• Fabricate, install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, including hydraulics, gearboxes, pumps, belts, bearings, and seals.
• Utilize machine shop tools and metalworking processes (arc welding, MIG, TIG, plasma cutting).

Electrical Responsibilities:

• Assist in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical components and pneumatic systems.
• Support machine controls and process systems within training scope.

General Duties:

• Inspect equipment, structures, and materials for safety and proper condition.
• Ensure maintenance meets quality standards and is recorded in CMMS.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and strong work ethic.
• Maintain technical knowledge through training, workshops, and publications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education or 2–3 years relevant maintenance or production experience; hands-on experience accepted.
• Experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and production equipment.
• Knowledge of safety practices and applicable regulations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and adaptability.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office and CMMS skills.

• Valid driver’s license; bilingual Spanish preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Indoor (40%) and outdoor (60%) work with exposure to elements.
• Work near moving mechanical parts and occasional chemical/dust exposure.
• Lift up to 50 lbs., squat, bend, twist, climb, balance.
• Frequent travel by car or air; prolonged sitting.
• Continuous use of computers, mobile devices, and hands.
