Description:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Supervisor I within Sacramento County. Caltrans is responsible for planning, designing, building, operating, and maintaining California’s transportation system, with a mission focused on improving lives and communities through safe and efficient mobility.
This supervisory role operates within the Division of Business Operations (DBO) Administrative Support Unit and provides leadership over a multidisciplinary team handling administrative, contractual, and operational support functions. The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with state policies and supporting organizational communication and administrative efficiency.
The Supervisor I will oversee a range of administrative responsibilities including contract support, Public Records Act compliance, HR-related coordination, telecommunications support, property control, and legislative or policy-related analysis. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to manage complex administrative workflows while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
The position is full-time, permanent, and operates under a hybrid work arrangement. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements based on state civil service rules and pass the required examination process to qualify for hire.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Supervising and managing the Administrative Support Unit within DBO
- Overseeing contract administration and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations
- Supporting Public Records Act (CPRA) requests and related documentation processes
- Coordinating HR, telecommunications, and property control functions
- Developing and reviewing administrative policies, reports, and guidance documents
- Leading communication efforts including staff meetings and leadership updates
- Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance in all administrative operations
- Providing direction and support to multidisciplinary staff teams
- Collaborating with leadership to improve operational efficiency
