JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and maintaining accurate financial records for the organization. This role involves compiling financial statements, reviewing data, and ensuring compliance with applicable financial regulations and policies. Key responsibilities include executing various financial procedures, such as Month-end and year-end closings, managing accounts payable and accounts receivable, preparing tax returns, performing bank reconciliations, recording general ledger entries, and assisting with forecasting and budgeting.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Review financial statements for accuracy and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and file tax returns in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Record accounting transactions and entries in financial systems and business logs.

  • Inspect account books and accounting systems for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency.

  • Organize, update, and maintain accurate financial records.

  • Recommend cost-saving measures and strategies to enhance revenue.

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.

  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for external audits.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.

 

Qualifications

Education

Minimum education required:


  • Associate degree in accounting or related field required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.

 

Work Experience:

Minimum experience required:


  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting or a related field.

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with accounting software; ability to learn and utilize systems operated by PRCI.

  • Experience with Intacct Accounting software (cloud-based).

  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles, including account maintenance, closing, reconciling, and balancing accounts.

  • Knowledge of filing systems and general office procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively and adapt in a diverse cultural setting.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports. 

  • Strong understanding of U.S. tax regulations. 

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Successfully pass employment drug test and background screening.

  • Familiarity with the Tribe’s Constitution, laws, and culture is preferred, but not required. 

  • Ability to work in a high-performance, fast-paced, high-pressure

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across a wide range of audiences.

  • Adept at multi-tasking, have unquestionable integrity, with a commitment to accuracy.

  • Organized with unfailing attention to detail and outstanding project management

  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner

  • Ability to perform high-quality work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.

PRCI TRIBAL PREFERENCE:

In accordance with applicable Tribal law and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians (PRCI) Administration provides employment preference to enrolled PRCI Tribal Members. To qualify, applicants must submit valid proof of enrollment.

 

Tribal Members who meet the minimum qualifications will be given preference in hiring, promotion, transfer, and layoff decisions. During the interview process, PRCI Tribal Members will receive an additional 7.5 points (10% of the 75-point interview rubric). Non-PRCI Native American candidates will receive an additional 5 points (6.7% of the total points) in accordance with Indian Preference guidelines.

 

 

INDIAN PREFERENCE STATEMENT:

In compliance with 25 CFR Part 276 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Sections 701(b) and 703(i), employment preference shall be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled members of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, and secondarily, to another qualified American Indian/Alaska Native Candidate.
