Lead Financial and Accounting Analyst

Job Summary:
The Lead Financial and Accounting Analyst plays a critical role on the Bakersfield site finance team, with a unique opportunity to split time between traditional accounting responsibilities and strategic FP&A. In addition to being responsible for preparing accurate and timely journal entries and performing detailed account reconciliations, this role partners directly with plant leadership to analyze operational performance, support decision-making, and drive cost and process improvements. This hybrid position requires a strong foundation in accounting, a keen analytical mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Essential Functions:
Accounting Responsibilities (approximately 60%):
- Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including payroll, accruals, amortization, depreciation, and intercompany entries
- Perform detailed monthly account reconciliations, including but not limited to fixed assets, inventory, prepaid expenses, lease obligations, and accrued liabilities.
- Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives across cost accounting processes and operational finance integration with plant activities
- Maintain and improve standard cost models and ensure accuracy of inventory valuation
- Perform fixed asset accounting, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and reporting
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities support and preparation of financial statements
- Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
FP&A / Operational Finance Responsibilities (approximately 40%):
- Partner with plant management and operations to align financial data with production metrics and support decision-making
- Analyze trends, prepare forecasts, and support budgeting process for the site
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams at the site to evaluate financial impact of projects, capital investments, and process changes
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators and dashboards to track financial and operational performance, identifying trends and recommending actions to improve results
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger, and cost accounting principles
- Demonstrated ability to prepare journal entries and perform complex reconciliations
- Experience in a manufacturing or operations finance environment strongly preferred
- Proven track record of process improvements or system enhancements
- High proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Effective time management with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required
- Minimum six years of accounting experience required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
- Requires frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
- Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials
