Position Summary:

The Educational Opportunity Project (EOP), housed in the Graduate School of Education, is seeking a Research Scholar to support new work developing and analyzing a novel database of kindergarten readiness assessment data.

The Research Scholar will work closely with the Executive and Faculty Directors of the EOP to develop code to clean, organize, and harmonize data from large longitudinal education datasets; to implement statistical estimation methods; and to analyze data for research publications. This position requires independent work as well as collaboration with the EOP team. Significant experience using Stata, a strong statistical background, and careful attention to detail is critical for this role.

The initial appointment will be 1-year fixed term, with renewal contingent on performance and project needs. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The expected pay range for this position is $93,000 to $148,000 per annum.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years since their applicable education, field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; among other factors.
Core Duties:

* Extract and clean data from a variety of sources, including state departments of education and the federal government, and maintain its accuracy and completeness.
* Build replicable and efficient software code for data cleaning and estimation.
* Create documentation for all code and analyses.
* Perform complex statistical analyses and develop graphs and tables for publication and presentation.
* Conceptualize and draft research papers
* Collaborate with other EOP researchers and collaborators.

QUALIFICATIONS / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* PhD in Education, Sociology, Statistics, or a related field.
* Experience and interest in conducting research on educational opportunity and equity.
* High-level statistical and quantitative data analysis skills spanning educational measurement, statistical analysis, and research design.
* Content expertise in education policy, sociology of education, economics of education, and/or related fields.
* Experience working independently with large datasets.
* Demonstrated collaboration, communication, and writing skills.

Physical requirements:

* Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
* Frequent sitting.
* Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
* Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl.
