Job Summary:
Operate various commercial trucks and truck trailers equipped for handling live bottom floor trailers, push-out trailers and roll-off containers used in hauling construction debris and recovered material to and from scheduled locations. Drivers are responsible for truck load out and hauling of construction debris to a landfill or waste facility, for delivering recovered material to customer sites, and for moving material on and around the facility property. This physically strenuous position involves mounting and dismounting a heavy-duty truck numerous times each day.
Job Duties:
- Proper tarping of vehicles to prevent loss of trailer/container contents during transport.
- Communicate with and take direction from office personnel dispatching outgoing or incoming loads.
- Perform complete pre-trip inspections, including but not limited to: checking tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges and controls.
- Be familiar with DOT regulations regarding the safe operation and required DOT documentation (including the daily Driver’s Log) required while driving company truck.
- Comply with all DOT roadside inspections.
- Complete logs, reports and vehicle inspections daily, while complying with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with Company policies.
- Read maps and be able to follow directions and map instructions.
- Follow all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Must use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Maintain proper certification and licenses as required by local, state and federal law.
- Must be able to work safely in close proximity to waste and industrial type trucks and equipment, and at waste disposal facilities and landfills.
- Responsible for vehicle presentation.
- Assists with cleaning of Company facilities and equipment, and general housekeeping as required.
- Will be required to work overtime, weekends, and during emergency conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Minimum one-year commercial driving experience with tractor-trailers.
· Possess a valid Class A or B CDL with an airbrake endorsement from the state of California
· Minimum two years satisfactory driving experience and a clean driving record.
· Must have a valid DOT Medical Card.
· Must pass a DOT and employment physical.
· Successfully pass a background investigation and drug screen.
· Previous work experience with heavy equipment, use of tools and equipment to conduct maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, ability, and skills.
· Must pass written and road test evaluation(s), when required.
· No suspensions or revocations due to a moving violation or accident within two years.
· No DUI (driving under the influence) convictions within four years.
· Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
Physical Activities:
Manual Dexterity – The ability to quickly move hands and arms to grasp manipulate, or assemble objects.
Extent Flexibility – The ability to repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach with the body, arms, and/or legs.
Static Strength – The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 75#.
Trunk Strength – The ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without “giving out” or fatiguing.
Dynamic Strength – The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue.
Explosive Strength – The ability to use short bursts of muscle force to throw an object.
Eye Strength – Able to see within normal range or maintain good vision using corrective lenses.
Stamina – The ability to exert oneself physically over long periods.
Job Conditions:
Work is performed in a variety of structures. There is exposure to high equipment noise, chemical fumes, and dust and potential electrical and machinery hazards. Field conditions outdoors are varying weather conditions, with varying low to high equipment noise; walking on changing ground surfaces; and there is some driving in various weather conditions. Exposed to the following materials: wood, metal, steel, plastics, drywall, pluming parts, glass, carpet, etc.
Essential Abilities:
- Ability to follow written or verbal directions and to complete assigned tasks as directed.
- Ability to travel to project sites as directed.
- Ability to mount and dismount vehicles and/or equipment repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Ability to learn from direction, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment.
- Ability to work independently or part of a team; ability to interact appropriately with others.
- Ability to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling and/or action/discipline.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs. unaided, stand and climb on ladders, and uneven/unstable surfaces.
- Ability to use a face respirator as required.
- Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.
Personal Protective Equipment Used
The following is provided to all employees at time of hire, replaced as needed and must be worn at all times during work hours; gloves (cotton), support belt, nose and mouth masks, reflective vests, hard hat, goggles, and ear protection. Work boots are not provided however are required and must be worn at all times at job site.
Other Tools and Equipment Used
Drivers are required to use the following: Hand tools, hand trucks, dolly, bins, containers, etc.
Wear a tool pouch with box cutter, wire cutter, hammer and basic hand tools. Push a wheeled bin known in-house as a “buggy”.
Qualifications:
· Willingness to accept night and weekend callouts in emergencies. Demonstrate good attendance.
- Able to operate related equipment to complete the job assignment.
- An attitude of adaptability and flexibility.
