Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Mobile Equipment Superintendent I, the incumbent in the Mobile Equipment Shop is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of automotive and construction equipment in an assigned geographic area.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License is required to perform the requirements of this position as incumbent is required to operate automotive vehicles on public roadways and/or on uneven terrain for travel to remote areas within the field division. Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License is desirable.

Employee is required to successfully complete all safety training related to the functions of the job.

This position is a sensitive position and is subject to substance abuse testing set forth in California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) Regulations 599.960 - 599.966.

Incumbents maintaining a Commercial Class A California Driver's License are subject to Federal DOT alcohol and substance abuse testing requirements (including random testing) as set forth in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

This position is not eligible for telework.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience diagnosing, repairing, & maintaining loaders, excavators, graders, backhoes, etc.
  • Experience troubleshooting & repairing diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Experience repairing, maintaining & troubleshooting fuel, cooling & exhaust systems.
  • Experience performing scheduled PM services, lubrication, inspections, and documentation per manufacturer specifications.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment, scan tools, service manuals, and technical software.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems, wiring issues, charging systems, sensors, and onboard diagnostic controls.
  • Hands-on experience inspecting, rebuilding, and maintaining hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, and hose.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards.

The successful candidate should have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, maintain consistent and reliable attendance, and have excellent judgment.
