Senior Planner II

Our client, a leading multi-disciplinary planning and design firm in San Diego, is seeking a Senior Planner II to join their award-winning team. In this role, you will lead complex planning initiatives , mentor junior staff, and help bring visions for communities to life. Youll collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, interact with public agencies, and contribute to projects ranging from General Plans and Specific Plans to TOD and downtown revitalization projects .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and processing of a wide range of planning documents , including General Plans, Specific Plans, Community/Corridor Master Plans, Zoning and Development Applications.
• Mentor and train junior staff to develop their skills and grow the teams expertise.
• Manage comprehensive planning projects, schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Conduct public engagement programs and present projects at public meetings.
• Provide technical expertise in California planning and zoning laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Support business development efforts, including client interaction and proposal preparation.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on conceptual design, urban design, development feasibility, and visual simulations.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Planning or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience , with at least 5 years in planning and development specific to California.
• AICP certification strongly preferred .
• Proven experience leading complex planning projects, preparing development applications, and managing public engagement processes.
• Strong knowledge of California planning and zoning laws, ordinances, and local government guidelines.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, and other planning tools .
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to mentor staff and foster a collaborative, high-performing work environment.
• Valid drivers license and good driving record.
