Employment Specialist
Achievement House is a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to empowering adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Since 1957, Achievement House has provided vocational training, education, and community living services, fostering independence and inclusion. As an Employment Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals as they pursue meaningful employment in the community. This position offers the opportunity to make a positive impact, work within a supportive team, and contribute to the mission of building partnerships and creating choices for those served.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized job coaching and on-the-job training to support clients’ vocational growth and success in community employment.
- Develop job opportunities for clients, including researching local labor market conditions and identifying suitable community-based positions.
- Maintain regular communication with employers to ensure satisfaction and address any client or staff needs.
- Monitor and evaluate contract requirements to ensure quality of workmanship and fulfillment of customer expectations.
- Facilitate job preparation classes and quarterly job club socials to enhance clients’ employment readiness.
- Participate in local events related to employment and maintain up-to-date marketing materials for distribution.
- Document and analyze job placement activities, maintain development logs, and prepare work environment reports.
- Collaborate with Job Coaches and other team members to communicate employer expectations and support client placements.
- Strive to place at least two clients per quarter, as referrals are available.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Background in sales and/or customer service preferred.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Comfortable with networking and community outreach.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to complete First Aid and CPR training.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and maintain auto insurance.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
Compensation
$24 per hour starting pay. Eligible for a $250 sign-on bonus.
