The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, Infrastructure, you will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling the core backend services and infrastructure that power our cutting-edge solutions in the clean energy sector. You will work with a modern tech stack to develop backend services (Python, Go), along with technologies like Terraform, Postgres, BigQuery, and Kubernetes to build reliable backend infrastructure. Your focus will be on developing robust, performant, and scalable backend systems while contributing to the underlying infrastructure that supports them. You'll collaborate with the team to ensure the reliability, security, and observability of our production environment.

• Designing and implementing new backend services and APIs to enhance our grid-scale battery capabilities and integrate new energy assets.
• Developing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code using Terraform to build, manage, and harden our cloud environment, driving best practices for scalability and reliability.
• Improving system observability by implementing enhanced logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting within our backend services and infrastructure.
• Collaborating with other engineering teams to define and build platform capabilities that enable faster, more reliable service development and deployment.

• Have 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering including solid programming experience in one or more high-level languages: Python, Java, Go, etc.
• Possess a proven track record of building and shipping production-grade backend software with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and scalability in distributed systems.
• Are familiar with major cloud providers, such as GCP, Azure, or AWS (experience with GCP is a plus).
• Have hands-on experience writing and managing infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
• Have experience with owning the full lifecycle of software development, from design and testing through deployment and production support.

• Containerization technologies like Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, AKS), ECS, or Docker.
• An interest in system security, reliability, and operational best practices.

$180,000 - $250,000 a year

What’s your policy on remote work?

We value the ability to work and collaborate in-person in our early stage as a startup, so Gridmatic has a hybrid policy of "50% in-office”. Most of the company works in our Cupertino office 2 or 3 days a week.
