Senior Marine Underwriter (San Francisco)

Zurich is seeking a Hull and Senior Marine Liability Underwriter in the Ocean Marine Department out of our office in San Francisco.

You will have the opportunity to develop and utilize your marketing and analytical skills along with your knowledge of marine operations to analyze and underwrite new and renewal marine hull and liability insurance business. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with select brokers in the marine insurance segment.

Key Accountabilities of this role:

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
• Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition, working closely with marine specialists and global brokers.
• Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities, including cross-sell with other departments in Zurich North America.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to meet the organization's risk appetite and business potential.
• Make broker, customer, and on-site calls with a clear purpose.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing roles.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree.
• Established broker relationships in the West region.
• Ability to assess risk effectively.
• Strong retail broker relationships.
• Excellent relationship-building, active listening, needs analysis, and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and regulations.
• Technical knowledge reflecting progression of responsibilities.
• PC and software skills.
• CPCU, AMIM, or ARM certifications are a plus.

Our compensation is influenced by various factors including location, role, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range for this position is $127,800 - $209,300, with a 15% short-term incentive bonus.
