THE ROLE

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team at Baseten, you'll be building and maintaining the core Baseten product, enabling users to deploy & get value from ML models as easily as possible. This team is at the forefront of all new product development at the company. As a developer-oriented product, we have a massive surface area, including all of our CLI tools, REST APIs, and the web application. Some of the projects we have in the pipeline:

• Fine-tuning: Enabling customers to fine-tune large models on our platform

• Environments for deployments: Allow easy integration of model deployment with CI/CD workflows

• Websockets: Enabling low-latency inference scenarios

As a team, we believe great ideas can come from anyone, and encourage all team members to think critically, pay attention to how customers are using the product, and use those insights to drive new product ideas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own and lead projects and areas of the product

• Mentor & develop junior engineers

• Design ergonomic APIs and abstractions to solve customer problems. Enable more junior engineers to do the same

• Fix bugs & resolve customer issues with urgency

• Drive long-term improvements to improve reliability of systems and velocity of development

• Work closely with the product & forward deployed engineering teams to develop and drive new product ideas

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field

• 5+ years experience building software applications

• Deep knowledge of the web stack & databases

• Good taste in product, particularly developer-oriented tools

• Interest in ML/AI infrastructure and willingness to learn

• Strong collaboration and communication skills
