Municipal Finance Consultant (12-Month Consulting Engagement) Location: Fully Remote (Occasional Travel to Trenton, NJ) Our client is seeking an experienced Municipal Finance Consultant to support a New Jersey municipality through a 12-month consulting engagement . This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned municipal finance professional with extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, budgeting, and governmental accounting to make an immediate impact while working remotely. Key Responsibilities Assist with the preparation and administration of the annual municipal budget. Support the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS). Oversee general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations. Strengthen and maintain internal controls. Prepare financial reports for municipal leadership and governing bodies. Coordinate audit preparation and respond to auditor requests. Monitor municipal revenues and expenditures. Assist with financial forecasting and long-term fiscal planning. Ensure compliance with New Jersey municipal finance regulations and reporting requirements. Recommend process improvements to enhance financial operations. Support special finance initiatives and strategic projects. Present financial information during occasional Board, Council, and committee meetings. Qualifications Previous finance leadership experience within a New Jersey municipality . Extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, regulations, and reporting requirements . Experience preparing municipal budgets and Annual Financial Statements (AFS). Strong background in governmental accounting, financial reporting, and audit support. Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently in a fully remote consulting environment.
