Legal Assistant - Commercial Business Litigation
Location: Downtown San Diego, CA (Hybrid)
Compensation: Up to $105,000 annually
Schedule: Full-time, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (30-minute lunch)
About the Role
Our downtown San Diego law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Commercial Business Litigation team. This is a newly created position designed to support multiple attorneys in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives on managing competing priorities while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, format, proofread, and finalize a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.
- Electronically file documents with state and federal courts, ensuring strict compliance with deadlines and filing procedures.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors.
- Manage complex attorney calendars, including scheduling court appearances, depositions, and client meetings.
- Coordinate and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, and court reporters.
- Track and monitor case deadlines, ensuring timely completion of tasks and follow-ups.
- Prepare expense reports and assist with billing-related documentation.
- Maintain organized case files and support overall case management.
- Handle additional administrative and litigation support duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably in Commercial Business Litigation.
- Prior experience supporting multiple attorneys in a large or mid-sized law firm ("Big Law") environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with document management systems such as iManage.
- Solid understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and court rules.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule with 4 remote days per month (subject to change); remaining days are in-office in downtown San Diego.
- Professional, collaborative office supporting high-level litigation work.
- Occasional overtime may be required based on case demands.
Top Priorities for This Role
- Strong Commercial Business Litigation experience (5+ years).
- Background in a large law firm setting.
- Spanish language proficiency.
