About the Role
Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Director – Cultural Resources to provide strategic leadership for our growing Cultural Resources Practice across California. This role is responsible for expanding client relationships, driving business development, leading practice growth initiatives, and strengthening Rincon's position as a trusted advisor for cultural resources consulting.

As a senior leader within the firm, you will collaborate with executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams to develop growth strategies, pursue new business opportunities, mentor future leaders, and support the successful delivery of complex environmental programs across utilities, transportation, water, renewable energy, infrastructure, and private development markets.

This position plays a critical role in expanding Rincon's Cultural Resources practice, fostering long-term client partnerships, and supporting the continued growth of one of California's leading environmental consulting firms.

How We Collaborate
This role may offer a hybrid work setup, blending time in the office with remote work as business needs evolve. We enjoy coming together in person to collaborate, connect with teammates, and partner with clients. We may prioritize candidates who live within 50 miles of a Rincon office. This position is located in either the Portland, OR or Seattle, WA area.

What You'll Do
Business Development & Client Leadership
  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans that expand Rincon's Cultural Resources Practice throughout California.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain executive-level relationships with existing and prospective clients across utility, transportation, water, renewable energy, public agency, and private development sectors.
  • Identify new market opportunities, lead capture strategies, and drive successful proposal efforts for major pursuits.
  • Represent Rincon at industry conferences, professional organizations, client meetings, and networking events.
  • Collaborate across environmental planning, biology, GIS, permitting, engineering, and other technical disciplines to develop integrated client solutions.
  • Grow existing client accounts while expanding Rincon's presence in emerging markets and service areas.
Practice Leadership
  • Partner with executive leadership to establish strategic priorities, annual business goals, and long-term growth initiatives for the Cultural Resources Practice.
  • Support financial performance through forecasting, resource planning, utilization management, and business planning.
  • Promote operational excellence by improving consistency, efficiency, and scalability across the practice.
  • Provide executive oversight for major client programs and strategic initiatives while supporting project teams in resolving complex challenges.
  • Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and implementation of best practices throughout the practice.
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor for complex cultural resources programs involving SEPA, NEPA, Section 106, and related federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic guidance on permitting, compliance, risk management, and environmental review processes.
  • Support quality assurance and technical excellence through mentoring, peer review, and oversight of technical standards.
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes, industry trends, and evolving client needs to position Rincon as a trusted industry leader.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing technical and management staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development across the Cultural Resources Practice.
  • Encourage collaboration across offices and technical disciplines while strengthening knowledge sharing and professional development.
What You'll Bring
  • Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Architectural History, or a related field.
  • Qualifications meeting the Secretary of the Interior Professional Standards for Archaeology or Architectural History (preferred).
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification preferred.
  • BLM Principal Investigator permit eligibility preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in cultural resources consulting.
  • Demonstrated success developing client relationships, securing new business, and growing consulting services.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and supporting large environmental consulting programs.
  • Strong understanding of SEPA, NEPA, Section 106, and California cultural resources regulations.
  • Excellent business acumen, including strategic planning, financial management, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Nice to Have
  • Established relationships with California utility, transportation, water, renewable energy, or public agency clients.
  • Experience leading major on-call contracts or statewide environmental programs.
  • Existing network within California's environmental consulting industry
  • ​​​​​​​ Experience developing high-performing technical teams and mentoring future leaders.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or strategic growth initiatives.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and industry associations.
Investing in You
The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 to $175,000+ , plus a generous benefits program. Salary ranges are based on the market median of similar jobs according to third-party salary benchmark surveys. Base pay is determined based on internal equity and a candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
