Hazardous Waste Technician (Irvine)
Essential Functions:
- Identifies, categorizes, and labels hazardous materials and waste according to regulatory standards.
- Ensures proper storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintains a waste tracking system to monitor waste generation, handling, and disposal.
- Develops and enforces safety procedures and protocols related to hazardous materials and waste management.
- Conducts regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Provides training to employees on safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Develops and implements emergency response plans for hazardous material incidents.
- Assists in responding to chemical spills, leaks, or other hazardous material emergencies.
- Coordinates with local emergency response agencies and ensures that necessary equipment and resources are available.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation related to hazardous waste management activities, including manifests, permits, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Prepares and submits regulatory reports and permits as required by local and federal agencies.
- Monitors and assesses environmental impacts associated with hazardous waste management.
- Recommends and implements strategies to minimize the environmental footprint of hazardous materials and waste.
- Ensures that all equipment used in hazardous waste handling is in good working condition and properly maintained.
- Oversees the distribution and use of appropriate PPE for employees involved in hazardous waste management activities.
- Stays up-to-date with changes in environmental health and safety regulations, and ensures organizational compliance.
- Interacts with regulatory agencies as needed and assists with inspections and audits.
- Promotes a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the organization.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of related work experience in Occupation Health and Safety, preferably in a laboratory setting.
Special Requirements/Certification:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, a plus.
- Hazwoper training, preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour & 30-hour General Industry training, a plus.
Pay Range: $23.00 to $29.00/hr.
