About the Team:

OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission.

The Accounts Receivable team is at the forefront of managing collections, cash applications, and revenue operations, working cross-functionally to ensure seamless payment processes and mitigate financial risk. As OpenAI scales, we are committed to developing innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, improve cash flow, and provide world-class financial support to both internal teams and our customers. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Manager to lead and scale our AR function as OpenAI continues to grow and increase in complexity. This pivotal role will drive the development of scalable processes, implement efficient systems, and ensure the stability and reliability of our financial operations.

The AR Manager will lead our Collections and Cash Application teams, fostering an environment that promotes excellence, collaboration, and strategic growth. We are looking for a leader with integrity, empathy, and a proven ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and adept at navigating a fast-paced, evolving environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Spearhead the adoption of automation tools and technology solutions to enhance the efficiency of accounts receivable and collections processes

  • Design, develop, and oversee scalable payment collection strategies to minimize bad debt and mitigate financial risks

  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive documentation of policies and processes; support process improvements and training during automation rollouts

  • Implement robust internal controls for credit and collections management to ensure compliance with SOX and other relevant regulations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and lead change management initiatives

  • Monitor and analyze accounts receivable metrics to identify trends and uncover opportunities for process and systems enhancements

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in credit and collections, preferably within a SaaS or technology-driven environment, with at least 3 years of proven leadership experience in a managerial role

  • Demonstrated success in building or transforming credit and collection functions in high-growth settings

  • In-depth knowledge of SaaS billing models, including subscription, usage-based, and hybrid structures

  • Expertise with ERP and CRM systems, with a proven track record of implementing and optimizing new solutions (e.g. CPQ, Salesforce, Stripe, Netsuite, Ironclad)

  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of cross-functional collaboration and efficient resolution of customer issues

  • Highly detail-oriented and data-driven, skilled in analyzing complex billing scenarios and driving continuous process enhancements

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach

  • Thrive in dynamic environments, demonstrating the ability to navigate ambiguity, solve complex problems, and manage timelines effectively in a fast-paced, ever-evolving setting
