T his Accounting Administrator I (AAI) position serves as the Office Revolving Fund and Travel Unit Supervisor within the Expenditure Section in the Financial and Business Management Division – Accounting Services Bureau. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing all functions of the Unit, establishing policies and procedures related to travel, revolving fund and warrant distribution activities processed by the Department. This position is responsible for monitoring and understanding new state travel rules and guidelines and communicating all travel-related updates to the Department in a timely manner. This position is responsible for managing staff handling office revolving fund and travel functions while assisting the Expenditure Section Chief in developing and implementing the Department’s travel, revolving fund and warrant distribution control guidelines.

As a Unit Supervisor and frontline leader in State government, the AAI is responsible for developing and inspiring the team to deliver great results for Californians and California Department of Insurance. The AAI must set a clear direction for daily operations by setting priorities, organizing work, monitoring process, and ensuring staff have the tools and guidance needed to meet the Unit’s goals; build collaborative relationships and foster an inclusive environment for consensus-building and decision-making; coach, guide, train, instruct, and develop team members; empower staff through a sense of shared ownership and decision-making; create an open and transparent environment for the exchange of information; foster a team environment through the support and recognition of team members; promote customer service and accountability, and motivate loyalty to the Department’s mission and commitment to drive continuous improvement for better results. To lead effectively the AAI must demonstrate personal credibility through authenticity, confidence, consistency, courage, decisiveness, generosity, honesty, integrity, and good judgment.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise building
  • Ability to move large or cumbersome reports from one location to another.
  • The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Strong leadership qualities and team building skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with State accounting principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the uniform accounting system and financial record keeping.
  • Knowledge of State travel rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience using the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) system or equivalent accounting application, CalATERs travel advance and expense reimbursement system, and Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, TEAMs etc.).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments efficiently and in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, creative and flexible approach to issues and problems while working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise reports.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with control agencies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational, research and analytical skills, and ability draw sound conclusions and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Must be dependable and reliable with great interpersonal skills and attendance.
  • Be open-minded and flexible to other ideas and solutions.

• Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
