Shipping Clerk
The Shipping Coordinator works in a contract manufacturing environment and ensures customer orders ship accurately, efficiently, and on time. This role prepares and manages shipping documentation, coordinates with shipping and office personnel, and provides administrative support to maintain smooth order fulfillment and strong customer communication.
Responsibilities- Prepare shipping documents accurately and in full compliance with company and customer specifications.
- Cross-reference purchase orders with shipping documentation to ensure correct invoicing and complete order fulfillment.
- Collaborate closely with shipping personnel to ensure customer orders are packaged and shipped in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with general office tasks, including filing, answering phones, and responding to customer inquiries in a professional manner.
- Contact customers to schedule pickups and coordinate cash-on-delivery (COD) payments when required.
- Perform data entry to maintain accurate and up-to-date shipping records and documentation.
- Support overall team operations by performing additional shipping, material handling, and administrative tasks as needed.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as required to support shipping and order fulfillment activities.
- Handle material movement and basic general labor tasks related to shipping and receiving.
- Experience preparing shipping documents in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Ability to cross-reference purchase orders with shipping documentation for accurate invoicing and order fulfillment.
- Proficiency in data entry and maintaining organized shipping records.
- Experience with material handling, including loading and unloading shipments.
- Ability to operate or support forklift operations in a shipping or warehouse environment.
- Knowledge of shipping and order fulfillment processes in a manufacturing or machine shop setting.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, shipping personnel, and office staff.
- Ability to perform general office tasks such as filing, answering phones, and responding to customer inquiries.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and order processing.
- Ability to coordinate customer pickups and manage COD payment arrangements.
- Experience working in a contract manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Background in general labor or warehouse support roles.
- Familiarity with shipping software or basic office computer applications for data entry.
- Ability to multitask and support both office and shop floor activities.
- Comfort working in a team-oriented environment and supporting colleagues across departments.
You will join a contract manufacturing operation with a strong local customer base, where your work directly supports on-time delivery and customer satisfaction. The role offers a mix of office and shop-floor responsibilities, providing variety in your day-to-day work and opportunities to develop both administrative and hands-on skills. You will work closely with a supportive team, gain exposure to manufacturing and logistics processes, and build experience in shipping, order fulfillment, and customer communication.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a machine shop environment with additional work performed in an office setting. You will move between the shop floor and office, working around manufacturing equipment, shipping areas, and material handling operations. The position involves typical shipping and warehouse activities such as material handling, loading, and unloading, along with office-based tasks like phone work, filing, and data entry. Expect a practical, hands-on environment that combines industrial shop conditions with standard office workspaces.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newark, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
