Customs & Logistics Specialist
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Customs & Logistics Specialist to join our team in Danville, VA. This role is vital to ensuring the smooth flow of international goods and compliance with customs regulations, directly supporting our supply chain efficiency and customer satisfaction.
About the Role
As a Customs & Logistics Specialist, you will be responsible for managing import and export processes, coordinating with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies to ensure all shipments comply with local and international laws. You will collaborate closely with internal teams including procurement, sales, and warehouse operations to streamline logistics and mitigate any delays in delivery schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle customs documentation and entry filings accurately and timely to avoid compliance issues and delays.
- Coordinate logistics activities including scheduling shipments, tracking delivery status, and managing transportation resources effectively.
- Conduct thorough checks for compliance with import/export regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements.
- Liaise with customs officials and regulatory bodies to resolve queries and ensure all shipments meet the necessary legal requirements.
- Maintain precise records of shipments, customs documentation, and inventory movements for audit and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and carriers to optimise cost and efficiency of transportation.
- Identify potential risks in the customs clearance process and develop strategies to address these proactively.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations affecting customs and logistics to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Coordination of the spare parts and machinery import and export, including documentation check, transport arrangements.
- Processing of the invoices related to the customs duties, brokerage, transportation.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in customs clearance and international logistics management.
- Strong knowledge of import/export regulations and classification of goods.
- Proficiency in using customs management software and logistics tracking systems.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders including regulatory authorities and internal teams.
- Problem-solving skills with an analytical approach to resolving operational challenges.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in compliance documentation.
- Experience in the manufacturing or distribution sectors is considered advantageous.
