JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Nurse Manager, MA Supervisor, and Charge Nurses, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, the Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of care to patients being seen in the practice. They will perform assigned patient care procedures in support of the care services provided to patients within the practice. They are required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the department. The assistant also assists with front and back office responsibilities, which include scheduling, pre-registering, verifying insurance, obtaining referrals and authorizations and coordination of required medical and financial information. They work as a team member with other staff and consistently projects a professional, caring and courteous demeanor.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for the efficient patient flow and provides support to multiple physicians. They communicate with referring physicians’ offices, and serves a liaison for the outside providers. They are responsible for insurance authorizations and pharmacy refills, as well as complicated treatment authorizations and hospital admission arrangements. S/he is required to have learn, have flexibility in working at all UCSF sites, assist in any of the departments that fall under the purview of Pediatric Surgical Specialties, and flexibility in floating to Pediatric Medical Specialties when census and staffing allows.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Please list:

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification

  • Familiarity with insurance verification and authorizations

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time, with no restrictions for keyboarding.

  • Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding skills, and experience and ability to work effectively in Word and Excel.

  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently with multiple forms of patient & provider communication including email, fax and phone system.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong writing skills to include the ability to compose basic office communications.

  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with team physicians and referring physicians

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

Please list:

  • Bilingual or multi-lingual capability

  • National Certification as Medical Assistant from recognized program: NCCT, AAMA, CCBMA, or AMT

  • Candidates with previous experience in Cadence Scheduling, Registration, and working with Electronic Health Records (e.g., EPIC)

  • Candidates with two or more years of Medical Assistant experience

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Please list:

  • CPR/BLS through AHA (including patient assessment and vital signs)

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program

Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of a specific individual, including the patient’s age.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
