AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN II
Job Description and Duties
Maintain vehicles assigned to the work location. Review vehicle reports for necessary repairs to vehicles. Inspect and verify necessity for repairs to defective vehicles. Maintain all required records and reports of vehicle maintenance. Shuttle vehicles between the work location and various dealerships for repair, if unable to repair locally. Review, process, and maintain copies of all invoices received for work performed by dealers and other vendors. Complete required forms, records and invoices for repairs. Maintain proper inventory and records of spare parts, tires, and petroleum products. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and system defects on vehicles and determine proper repair procedures, to include but not limited to; installing brake pads, packing wheel bearings, and installing starters. Ensure vehicle interior, trunk, and engine compartments are free of obstructions. Ensure spare parts, tires, tools, and other departmental equipment used in maintaining vehicles are secured properly. Perform minor repairs to vehicles as required. Inspect and road test departmental vehicles to ensure work authorized was performed satisfactorily by vendor. Maintain required stocks of oil and required records of usage of petroleum products. Obtain bids and sell surplus tires, parts, and vehicles as necessary. Account for and control automotive equipment assigned to the Area office. Maintain files for automotive bulletins. Ensure all information is entered into departmental databases. Conduct required inspections of the fuel station and tank at the work location and maintain all associated records. Assist with the installation of specialized equipment to the work location vehicles. Ensure vehicles are in excellent condition. Serve as an assigned member of the Area Occupational Safety Committee. Assist and perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Incumbents are required to crawl underneath a vehicle/down under the dashboard/into the trunk; lift and carry tires up to 60 pounds in weight; and work in varying, and sometimes extreme, temperatures.

- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
The CHP utilizes their own Automotive Technician II certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Automotive Technician II classification to be eligible to take the examination. To obtain certification list eligibility , please view the examination bulletin link at CalCareers and follow all instructions. In addition to applying for the examination, applicants MUST submit an application to this Job Control to be considered for the position.

Benefits
Position qualifies for Greater Bay Area Retention Pay Differential of five percent (5%) of base pay.
