[Priority Listing] Classroom Assistant - Grades Program

Part-Time · 20 hours per week · Morning Schedule

Sacramento Waldorf School is seeking a warm, reliable, and attentive Classroom Assistant to support our Grades program for the 2025–2026 school year. This position is ideal for someone who loves working with children, enjoys being part of a collaborative team, and feels inspired by Waldorf education’s focus on whole-child development.

Classroom Assistants play a meaningful role in creating a nurturing, structured, and inclusive learning environment while supporting the teacher’s leadership and the daily rhythm of the school day.

The Classroom Assistant works closely with the class teacher to support students academically, socially, and emotionally throughout the morning portion of the school day. Responsibilities include helping with transitions and routines, supporting small-group or individual instruction, supervising recess and snack, and reinforcing classroom expectations and social-emotional learning strategies.

The ideal candidate brings warmth, presence, patience, and strong communication skills. This position does not involve independent curriculum design or lesson planning, but instead supports the teacher in maintaining a calm, organized, and positive learning environment.

Hours: 20 hours per week

Schedule: Weekdays during the academic year, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Education and Related Work Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; some college or bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience working with children in a group learning environment
• Experience with neurodivergent learners helpful
• Familiarity with Waldorf education preferred but not required

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Background clearances as required by state and federal regulations
• Mandated Reporter certification (annual)
• Sexual Harassment Prevention training (every two years)
• CPR/First Aid certification (every two years)

• Ability to follow teacher direction and implement instructional strategies
• Warm, patient, and steady presence with children
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of child development and social-emotional learning
• Ability to support classroom management, behavior guidance, redirection, and conflict resolution
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
