Buyer II

Job Summary

We are seeking a Buyer II for a contract opportunity in Pleasanton, CA. This role is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies in support of manufacturing operations.

The Buyer II will work closely with suppliers, vendors, production planning, inventory control, quality, shipping and receiving, finance, IT, and other internal teams to ensure materials are available on time, purchase orders are accurate, and production schedules remain on track. This is a strong opportunity for a procurement professional who enjoys supplier management, MRP-driven purchasing, cost negotiation, and cross-functional problem solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role is well suited for a self-starter who can manage multiple priorities, build productive vendor relationships, and contribute to efficient supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Source suppliers, support supply agreements, negotiate pricing and terms, and help reduce costs through effective purchasing strategies.
- Review MRP weekly, create and expedite purchase orders, and ensure material availability based on quality, quantity, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Coordinate with production planning, production, inventory control, IT, finance, shipping and receiving, quality control, and other departments to support manufacturing schedules.
- Resolve receiving, documentation, specification, SDS, CoA, packing list, BOM, and non-conformance issues related to incoming raw materials and components.
- Monitor manufacturing reports and schedule changes to adjust raw material and packaging component orders as needed.
- Research available materials and equipment, estimate costs, and support tiered pricing guidelines and supplier performance improvement.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage sourcing and purchasing activities for raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Evaluate MRP requirements, generate purchase orders, expedite materials, and support production continuity.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve supply, documentation, receiving, and quality-related issues.
- Negotiate with vendors and support cost-effective purchasing decisions that align with business needs.

- 3-5 years of procurement, purchasing, or planning experience required, or equivalent related experience.
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience with purchasing, scheduling techniques, materials requirements planning, inventory management, risk management, and supplier relationship management.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems in a manufacturing environment, such as Oracle or SAP.
- Working knowledge of cGMP practices and manufacturing process flow.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and communicate business documents such as specifications, BOM changes, inventory reports, packing lists, SDSs, and CoAs.
- Strong analytical thinking, math, statistics, reading comprehension, writing, and basic supply chain fundamentals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, planning, organizing, teamwork, collaboration, and conflict management skills.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, ethics, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently while supporting a team environment and multiple assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous purchasing and planning experience in the cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Experience with Oracle or similar Enterprise Resource Planning software.
- Association memberships or professional certifications related to procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or materials management.
- Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments with quality documentation and cGMP expectations.
