Manager: Technical Assistance Unit
Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Risk Assessment and Mapping Section (RAMS) Manager, the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, serves as manager of the technical assistance unit. The position oversees Risk assessment and mapping technical assistance services to State, federal and local agencies to advance statewide floodplain management program of the Department of Water Resources.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Strong knowledge and background of the California watersheds, hydrologic systems, dams and reservoir systems, floodplains and flood management systems, and floodplain management programs are highly desirable. Knowledge and experience working with local flood communities, State and federal partners in floodplain risk management are desirable. The incumbent should also possess a comprehensive understanding of the Central Valley flood control system and function with technical expertise and practical experience specific to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling applications in engineering studies that support floodplain risk assessment and Mapping programs and flood planning, and feasibility studies. Candidates with a strong background in Geographic Information System and data systems is preferable. Proficiency in computer applications and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software for statewide flood risk assessment technical services is required. Candidates with excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, and good coordination and partnership building skills are highly preferred. Experience in leading diverse teams for collaborative flood mitigation projects is desirable.
