Mechanical Design Engineer

Trevi Systems is engaged in the research, development and commercialization of a novel Forward Osmosis desalination technology. Trevi Systems is a privately-held company located in Rohnert Park, California. Trevi is actively engaged in completing development and scaling its current system to meet customer demand and has the following position available for immediate hire:

The Trevi Systems Mechanical Design Engineer is a key creative innovator, responsible for developing systems for Trevi’s unique water purification systems and associated component design. The job encompasses the entire life cycle of product development, from problem definition through system installation and deployment. Ideal candidates will be as comfortable in the lab/shop/field as they are at their office desks.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties :

· Work with creative team to develop and drive design concepts

· Design, engineer, and develop components for water purification systems

· Design entire systems for water treatment based on customer specifications

· Use design tools such as FEA, FMEA, and DFx to guide design decisions

· Develop automated water desalination systems for industrial and commercial product lines

· Design custom frames, piping assemblies, manifolds, desalination modules using concepts of solid mechanics and fluid dynamics for the system

· Calculate values of flow and pressures for selection of commercial pumps, pipes, solenoid valves and pressure reducing valves

· Apply DFM tools like house of quality, PRIMA charts, Ashby charts, cost analysis, safety analysis, FMEA, fault tree analysis and reliability analysis for preliminary design

· Design parts with respect to available manufacturing processes like injection molding, welding, laser cutting, CNC, Vacuum forming and additive manufacturing

· Generate engineering documents such as design reports, followed by detailed drawings and BOMs using Solid works and AutoCAD

· Create detailed CAD models and drawings (in SolidWorks), and product specifications

· Generate complete Systems indented bills of materials for the Trevi designed systems

· Develop prototypes for lab testing and complete systems for external customers, coordinate with internal and external component vendors and contract manufacturing suppliers.

· Work closely with Applications Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing Operations and Customers to integrate application needs, installation requirements and constraints and supplier feedback into design development

· Evaluate manufacturability, cost issues, and other criteria with engineering team, suppliers and manufacturing

Experience and Education :

· Master’s in mechanical engineering, or related field

· 2+ years of professional experience (this is not an entry level position)

· Experience with complex system design (including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, hydraulics, mechanisms)

· Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes, such as progressive die stamping, machining, roll forming, aluminum extrusion, die casting, investment casting, welding, and injection molding

· Experience selecting components for fully operational systems including pumps, heat exchangers, valves, piping and plumbing, process instrumentation, frames, etc.

· Experience calculating process flows, fluid concentrations, process flow diagrams

· Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) with knowledge of routing, 3D parts model libraries, PFD, P&ID, FEA and BOM generation
