Business Development - Purchasing Manager

Schedule: This is primarily an in-office position with some time out of the office for client visits and industry meetings. Our Generous Benefits Include:

The primary function of the Business Development/Purchasing Manager is driving sales and building relationships with clients as well as purchasing raw material and managing inventory levels. The essential function of this role is to promote and sell the company’s products to customers such as distributors, handling quotes, orders and communications with production and shipping departments. Below are the typical job duties for this role: Client Acquisition and Relationship Management :
- Identify and prospect new customers, such as construction companies, furniture manufacturers, or wholesale distributors, through cold calls, referrals or industry events.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with existing clients to ensure repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Conduct in-person meetings, site visits, and presentations to showcase the company’s MDF mouldings.
- Develop and present quotes and proposals tailored to client needs, considering product specifications, pricing, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and logistics to close sales while maintaining profitability for the company.
- Process orders, coordinate with production and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery and follow up on order fulfillment to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Stay informed about market trends, competitor products, and pricing in the MDF industry to position the company’s products effectively.
- Identify opportunities for new markets or applications for the company’s MDF products, such as eco-friendly or specialty items.
- Provide feedback to management about customer needs and market demands to guide product development or inventory decisions.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s product line, including MDF specifications, manufacturing processes, grades, and applications (e.g., construction, furniture, or industrial use).
- Advise clients on the best MDF items for their specific projects, considering factors like durability, cost, and sustainability.
- Address technical questions about product specifications, such as dimensions, finishes, or certifications (e.g., FSC for sustainable wood).
- Travel within an assigned territory to meet with clients, attend trade shows, or visit job sites, spending some time on the road.
- Manage a sales territory by prioritizing high-value clients, scheduling visits, and tracking sales activities.
- Attend industry events, such as lumber or construction trade shows, to network and generate leads.
- Track sales performance, including revenue, leads, and conversion rates, and report results to management.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, sales activities, and pipeline status.
- Prepare forecasts and sales reports to help the company plan inventory and production.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns about product quality, delivery issues, or pricing disputes.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., production, logistics, or customer service) to resolve issues quickly and maintain client satisfaction.
- Ensure sales practices comply with industry regulations, such as environmental standards for sustainably sourced wood or safety certifications.
- Stay updated on building codes or industry standards that affect the use of MDF products in construction or manufacturing.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a salesperson for MDF or similar product.
- Proven history of success in a sales role.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent mathematical skills.
- Must be able to work well in a team environment.
