This is a Promotional and Open recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill vacancies. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. In a promotional and open recruitment, the promotional list shall take precedence. When the promotional list contains fewer than three eligible and willing employees, certification of additional ranks shall then be made from the open list.Positions in this classification are full-time (40 hours per week), 12 months per year.
The recruitment process will consist of a written and/or performance examination and/or an oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of February 26 , 2024 - March 15, 2024 . Qualified applicants will be notified by email.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform accounting and bookkeeping duties in such areas as cash handling, receipting and disbursement of student body monies at District high schools; advise school administrators, club advisors, and student body officers on proper accounting policies and procedures for administering student body funds.FUNCTION & DUTIES
Receive and reconcile cash and checks for student body transactions and accounts; prepare receipts and compile periodic summaries; prepare and verify bank deposits and reconcile bank statements; make deposits to bank accounts. E Prepare ASB purchase orders in accordance with District purchasing policies; verify club minutes are in order and the availability of funds; issue checks and maintain records of purchase orders and invoices. E Receive monies from students and other District monies, and record totals. E Set up and distribute cash boxes for ticket sales at events such as sports games, dances or club activities; reconcile accounts and maintain ticket inventory. E Collect, receipt, and reconcile fees collected for events and activities or student fines. E Verify, produce and distribute checks for all scholarships paid through ASB. E Process student applications for insurance to obtain sports clearance; answer questions regarding insurance for students and parents. E Collect during "Registration Confirmation" money for miscellaneous fees; inputting the information into the computerized accounting system, and training others to assist in inputting this information into the computer data base. E Track and maintain student monies owed and non-sufficient funds, and distribute student "Hold List" for seniors and registration. E Clear all athletes for all sports for physicals, parent authorizations, activity cards and insurance. E Oversee the sale of student body items such as cards, tickets, yearbooks, caps and gowns, student store items, and other fund raising activities; maintain appropriate inventory records. E Maintain accounts for a variety of student activities and events such as sports teams, clubs, yearbooks, special events, scholarships and graduation. E Work with students, teachers, parents and school administrators to ensure proper procedures are followed in collecting, signing for, and disbursing monies in accordance with club minutes. E Make entries to journals and ledgers; balance accounts and prepare and distribute financial statements on accounts, prepare bank reconciliations, and work with independent auditors as required. E Operate modern office machines and equipment such as ten-key adding machine, computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, copier, bar code scanner, coin and bill counter, and point of sale machine. E Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required. E Perform related duties as assigned. Note: At the end of some of the duty statements there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF: Accounting principles, practices and terminology. Bookkeeping principles and financial record-keeping practices used in preparing financial or statistical reports in a system involving data processing. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Computerized accounting systems and software. Personal computer software applications, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, internet, etc. Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques. Telephone techniques and etiquette. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Operation of a computer terminal. ABILITY TO: Perform complex clerical accounting duties involving independent judgment and initiative. Prepare and maintain complex financial records, analyze data and prepare accurate reports. Apply bookkeeping and financial record-keeping principles to assigned specialty area. Maintain a complete set of financial books and accounts of high schools student body funds. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Compare numbers and detect errors efficiently. Make arithmetic computations and tabulations with speed and accuracy. Operate a variety of office equipment such as a computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, ten-key adding machine, bar code scanner, coin and bill counter, point of sale machine and copier. Train others to operate office equipment. Type at an acceptable rate of speed. Meet schedules and time lines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Answer complaints and deal tactfully with students and others in explaining the rules and practices governing student body accounts or vendor inquiries regarding invoices. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Work independently with little direction. Demonstrate behavior that is professional and responsible. Demonstrate mental acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. Demonstrate empathy, friendliness, patience and responsibility. Be motivated to produce high quality work product. Comprehend and follow directions. Work effectively in stressful situations. Maintain a work pace appropriate to the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school including or supplemented by course work in accounting or bookkeeping and three years increasingly responsible financial record-keeping experience. One year's experience working in a school accounting office is highly desirable. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license.

The District offers two excellent medical plans, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente ; two dental plans, Delta Dental and MetLife SafeGuard ; and vision care through Vision Service Plan (VSP). Currently full-time employees (employees working 6 hours or more per day) pay 20% of the premium cost for these plans. All plans are available to the employee and their dependents. This coverage is available to employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week.
