As Libertine enters its next chapter of growth, the company is creating its first dedicated Human Resources leadership position to support employees, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and help ensure our people practices evolve alongside the business. This role will serve as a trusted partner to both employees and leadership, helping preserve Libertine’s unique environment while implementing thoughtful systems and processes that support long-term success. Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager will serve as Libertine’s primary internal HR leader, overseeing employee relations, talent management, organizational development, performance management and HR administration. Working closely with company leadership and external partners, this individual will help ensure compliance, strengthen employee engagement, and develop people practices that support both the business and its employees. This position requires a high level of discretion and the ability to handle sensitive employee and business information with confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment at all times.
This role is ideal for a hands-on HR professional who enjoys partnering with leadership, supporting employees, and building thoughtful systems and processes within a creative, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities Employee Experience
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers across the organization. Help maintain and strengthen Libertine’s collaborative, creative, and entrepreneurial environment. Support employee engagement initiatives that foster communication, teamwork, and professional growth. Provide guidance and support regarding company policies, best practices, and employee concerns. Partner with leadership to promote a positive and productive workplace. Assist managers in developing effective leadership and communication skills. Facilitate employee feedback processes and recommend improvements where appropriate. Help ensure employees feel informed, supported, and aligned with company expectations and objectives.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruitment efforts for corporate, retail, production, and creative positions. Develop onboarding programs that improve employee integration and productivity. Maintain consistent hiring practices and interview processes. Support workforce planning and organizational growth initiatives.
Performance Management & Professional Development
- Design and administer performance review programs. Establish clear expectations, accountability measures, and development plans. Partner with managers to address performance concerns and career development opportunities. Assist leadership in succession planning and organizational structure decisions. Partner with leadership to develop and communicate clear expectations, career development opportunities, and performance standards across the organization. Help create systems and processes that support employee growth, accountability, and long-term retention. Provide thoughtful guidance to employees and managers regarding professional development and organizational expectations.
Human Resources Administration & Compliance
- Serve as the primary internal HR resource for employees and managers. Partner with the external HRIS team to support with benefits administration, leave management, employee relations, and regulatory compliance. Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and workplace regulations. Maintain employee records, HR documentation, and personnel files. Review and update employee policies, handbook materials, and workplace procedures as needed. Coordinate employee leaves, accommodations, and related processes in partnership with external advisors. Assist leadership in implementing HR best practices that support both business objectives and employee experience. Partner with the Comptroller, Senior Operations Manager, and CEO on employee-related matters while payroll processing and timekeeping administration remain managed by the appropriate internal teams.
Organizational Development
- Evaluate and improve company policies, procedures, and organizational structures. Develop scalable HR processes appropriate for a growing business. Support change management initiatives. Analyze workforce trends and provide recommendations to leadership. Create systems that balance employee satisfaction with operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced hands-on environment Have experience balancing employee advocacy with business objectives. Possess strong emotional intelligence, discretion, and sound judgment. Be comfortable working with creative professionals and entrepreneurial leaders. Demonstrate the ability to establish structure while preserving company culture. Enjoy building relationships with employees across diverse backgrounds, experience levels, and generations. Effectively leverage external partners and resources while maintaining ownership of the company’s people strategy and employee experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field. 5–8+ years of progressive HR experience. Experience supporting small to mid-sized organizations, preferably within fashion, luxury goods, retail, creative industries, or entrepreneurial businesses. Strong knowledge of California employment law. Experience managing employee relations and performance management processes. Experience working with HRIS, benefits administration, and external HR service providers. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
