Resident Camp Equestrian Director
The Equestrian Director is responsible for planning, implementing and directing a meaningful horseback riding program for campers of all ages and abilities and to maintain equestrian facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Develop and operate meaningful and safe horseback riding program geared to the ages, interests, needs and abilities of the campers
- Supervise, train, monitor, and support the work of the Wranglers in the horseback riding responsibilities.
- Supervise and monitor trail rides, riding lessons and equestrian facility operations to ensure that program offers high quality activities. Serve as primary instructor for all riding lessons
- Plan, implement, and monitor equestrian activities to ensure that all established health and safety standards are followed by campers and staff
- Evaluate horses for physical and mental soundness and suitability for beginning riders. Provide total care for the horses, tack, barn, and riding areas
- Inventory and prepare general equestrian facility areas to ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained and kept in order throughout the camp season. Order supplies as necessary
- Perform other duties, as assigned

Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Able to work the full summer camp season - June 21st - August 13th
- Ability to work with children and staff of different ages
- Current Wilderness First Aid or other advanced First Aid certification preferred
- Current certification by an accredited horsemanship instructor training organization, riding school, or documented proof of a minimum of three years’ experience successfully instructing in a general horseback riding program, especially in western-style riding
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of supervision of a total riding facility operation including stable management, care and feeding of horses, scheduling, staff supervision, training and equipment care
- Skills and willingness to ride intermediate-advanced horses
- Must demonstrate before first day of work, in-person, the ability to safely handle, lead, groom, tack, ride and dismount a horse, as well as the ability to teach these skills
- Must be willing to work in an outdoor setting and live on camp premises during the summer
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or able to obtain certification before the first day of work
- Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation (Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans)
